The History of the Goose Hollow Neighborhood in Portland, OR

Goose Hollow is one of the oldest neighborhoods in the Pacific Northwest. It gets its name from early residents who used to let their geese run free in the Tanner Creek Gulch.

Daniel Lownsdale established Goose Hollow and put Portland on the map when he opened a tannery in 1845. The tannery was located at the same site as modern-day Providence Park. His tannery was the only tannery west of the Rockies and north of Mexico. It brought business to Portland and positioned Lownsdale to advocate for the Great Plank Road that allowed farmers to bring their produce to the Willamette River.

As time passed, Goose Hollow became a trading ground for Native women and farmland for Chinese immigrants. As Portland, OR grew, Goose Hollow became the neighborhood for mercenaries and blue-collar laborers.

At the turn of the century, Goose Hollow was transformed by cable cars and then the automobile in the 1960s. Today, Goose Hollow is home to many historic buildings and has access to the MAX light rail

It has condos, shops, restaurants, and attractions like:

Goose Hollow looks different than in the 1800s. Today it is a popular neighborhood for tourists, residents, professionals, and students looking to have a fun day or night in Portland, Oregon.

Truck Accidents

We often see catastrophic injuries in truck accident cases. These serious injuries require a legal team that recognizes the severe impact and unique needs of a truck crash case.

Wrongful Death

Wrongful death cases are the most devastating of all personal injury cases. We work compassionately with families and loved ones of people who were killed because of someone else’s negligence

Damages Available in Goose Hollow Personal Injury Cases

Several different types of damages are available in a Goose Hollow personal injury case. The most common are economic damages. Economic damages are awarded for monetary losses directly related to an accident.

For example, you can recover money for:

  • Past and future medical bills
  • Past and future lost wages
  • Property damage
  • Lost earning capacity

You can also recover non-economic damages. This is compensation for the non-financial impact of an accident.

Examples include:

Oregon law caps non-economic damages in a wrongful death case to $500,000.

What Does It Cost To Hire a Personal Injury Lawyer in Multnomah County?

Most personal injury lawyers in Multnomah County charge a contingency fee. A contingency fee is when a lawyer’s payment is deducted from the final settlement or jury award. Instead of paying a lawyer by the hour, the client pays the lawyer a percentage of the final award.

The percentage is agreed upon before hiring the lawyer and signing the contract. Usually, it is around 30% of the settlement. Contingency fees are great for clients because if you lose the case, you don’t need to pay the lawyer anything.

Statute of Limitations in Oregon Personal Injury Cases

Most Oregon personal injury cases have a two-year statute of limitations. That means you must file your lawsuit within two years from the date of the accident. In a wrongful death case, you have three years to file your lawsuit.

If you don’t file your lawsuit within the statute of limitations, you lose your right to seek damages. If you file it after the deadline, it will most likely be dismissed.
